For my Edge Project I helped and observed physical therapists at South Preschool in Cedar City, Utah.

Project Goal

 

The goal of this project was to observe and aid physical therapists at South Preschool  with their patients. I will help patients through their rehabilitation program and observe treatment techniques used by the physical therapists. This project gave me experience working with patients outside of the college level athletes I work with on a daily basis as an athletic training student.

Larger Purpose

 

This volunteer opportunity allowed me to diversify my experience when I applied for physical therapy school, giving me a more competitive resume. I was recently accepted into the DPT program at Rocky Mount University of Health Professions.

Outcome

 

I learned effective strategies on how to work with patients through the observation of the health care professionals I worked with, as well as from hands on experience. Also, the patients with whom I helped were able to improve their physical health, giving them more independence and confidence.
